What is Age of Empires?
Age of Empires is Microsoft's historical real-time-strategy series launched in 1997. Players choose one of history's great civilisations (Britons, Franks, Byzantines, Mongols, Aztecs, Mayans, etc.), harvest wood/food/gold/stone, advance through the ages, and destroy the enemy. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (2019) and Age of Empires IV (2021) revived competitive scenes with millions of players. A tournament staple.
