MULTI-SPORT endurance race combining SWIMMING + RUNNING (no cycling — distinguishes from triathlon). Standard WORLD TRIATHLON FORMAT: 1000m SWIM → transition → 5000m RUN. Excellent triathlon-entry event for those without bike. Governed by WORLD TRIATHLON; WORLD AQUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS held annually since 1998 (often as part of Multisport World Championship Series).

Rules
Basic rules
STANDARD FORMAT: 1000m OPEN-WATER SWIM → transition (T1) → 5000m RUN → finish
Signature 1km + 5km format.
TRANSITION (T1): pull off wetsuit, put on shoes + race belt; usually <1 min elite

ONE TRANSITION only (vs. triathlon's two) — no bike involved
