What is Arimaa?
Arimaa was designed in 2003 by Omar Syed as a game that would be difficult for computers but intuitive for humans. It uses standard chess equipment: an 8×8 board and the usual chess pieces re-imagined as elephants, camels, horses, dogs, cats and rabbits. Players get up to four steps per turn and pieces have no set starting position. An annual $10,000 Computer vs Human Arimaa Challenge ran from 2004–2015.
