Chaupar

Chaupar (also Chausar) is a traditional cross-and-circle race game of the Indian subcontinent, close cousin to Pachisi. Played on an embroidered cloth board by four players in two teams, with cowrie shells or long six-sided dice for randomising moves. The famous dice game in the Mahabharata (where the Pandavas lose everything including their wife to the Kauravas) is generally identified with Chaupar. Considered the more courtly and complex of the family compared to the simpler Pachisi.
