Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is the flagship Japanese role-playing game series, developed by Square (now Square Enix) from 1987. Almost every numbered title is a stand-alone fantasy epic with its own world, cast and combat system, but recurring elements — crystals, airships, chocobos, moogles — tie them together. Milestones include FFVI (1994), FFVII (1997) and the MMO FFXIV (2013), which reversed a troubled 2010 launch to become one of the most-played MMORPGs of the decade.
