Ganjifa

Ganjifa is the traditional hand-painted card game of Mughal India and Safavid Persia, played with beautiful round cards divided into 8, 10 or 12 suits of 12 cards each. Introduced under the Mughal Emperor Babur in the 16th century, it split into regional variants like Mughal Ganjifa (48 cards, 8 suits) and Dashavatara Ganjifa (120 cards, 10 suits themed on Vishnu's avatars). Almost extinct today, sustained by a handful of artisan card-painters in Sawantwadi, India.
