Officially Gateball (ゲートボール)
Japanese team mallet-and-ball sport invented 1947 by SUZUKI KAZUNOBU (Hokkaido) as an accessible alternative to Western croquet for post-war children. TEAM 5v5 played on 15×20m court; players hit balls through 3 gates + strike centre pole in sequence. IMMENSELY POPULAR with Japanese seniors (10M+ players Japan/Asia); World Gateball Union; World Gateball Championship since 1990.

How it works
Objective
Hit balls through 3 gates in order (gates 1→2→3) then strike centre pole = 'agari'; earn 1 point per gate + 2 points per finished ball; team with most points wins in 30 min.

Basic rules
TEAMS ALTERNATE turns — players hit in strict order (ball #1, #2, ...)

PASS GATE 1 to enter play; then Gate 2 → Gate 3 → CENTRE POLE (agari)

SPARK-STROKE (touch stroke): pass through gate + strike opponent ball → BONUS 'send-away' shot
