What is Guitar Hero?
Guitar Hero is Harmonix's rhythm-video-game series (later moved to Neversoft/Activision), launched in 2005. Players wield a plastic guitar controller and hit five coloured fret buttons in time with scrolling on-screen notes matched to hit rock songs. It spawned the peripheral-heavy rhythm-game boom of the late 2000s alongside sister series Rock Band, before the genre collapsed in the early 2010s. Guitar Hero Live briefly revived it in 2015.
