What is Jass?
Jass is the collective name for a family of Swiss trick-taking card games so central to Swiss culture that the Swiss national broadcaster runs regular tournaments. The base game is a 36-card trick-taking game played with either the traditional Swiss-suited German-pattern deck (Shields, Roses, Bells, Acorns) in the East or the French deck in the West. Schieber Jass (four-player partnership) and Coiffeur Jass are the most common variants.
