What is Kite Fighting?

Kite fighting is a traditional aerial sport in which flyers manoeuvre small kites to cut their opponents' kite strings from the sky. The line (manja) is coated with crushed glass and glue. Once an opposing string is cut, spectators race to catch the drifting kite. Uttarayan (Gujarat), Basant (Pakistan/Punjab) and Rio's kite battles are the most famous versions.
