Makruk

Makruk is the traditional chess of Thailand and one of the closest living descendants of the ancient Indian chaturanga. Played on an 8×8 board like Western chess, its queen ('met') moves only one square diagonally and its bishop ('khon') moves only one square diagonally or one straight forward — making games slower and endgame-heavy. It has an active tournament scene led by the Makruk Federation of Thailand.
