What is Muay Boran?

Muay Boran ("ancient boxing") is the umbrella term for the pre-modern battlefield ancestor of Muay Thai. Bouts were fought bare-fisted (or with rope wraps called kaad chuek) using strikes with the fists, elbows, knees, feet, shins and head, plus joint locks and takedowns. Modern muay boran is largely preserved as a traditional art and stage performance.
