Oil Wrestling

Yağlı güreş is the national sport of Türkiye, in which wrestlers wearing only leather trousers (kispet) douse themselves in olive oil and grapple on grass. The oiled skin makes throws exceptionally difficult and gives the sport its slow, tactical character. The Kırkpınar tournament near Edirne, held annually since 1346, is one of the world's oldest continuously running sports events.
