Oină is Romania's national bat-and-ball team sport, first recorded in 1364 and closely related to English rounders and American baseball. Eleven-a-side teams alternate batting and fielding; batters strike a small ball with a long wooden bat and run through a rectangular course, dodging thrown balls from the fielding team.
