Pachisi

Pachisi is a traditional Indian cross-and-circle board game played on a cloth board since at least the 6th century; the emperor Akbar reportedly had a full-size courtyard version at Fatehpur Sikri played with human pieces. Four players in two teams race pieces around and into the centre using six or seven cowrie shells thrown to determine movement. Ludo and Parcheesi are direct commercial adaptations.
