What is Quoits?

Quoits is a traditional throwing game whose roots go back to ancient Greek discus throwing. In its modern British form, players stand at one end of a clay bed and throw heavy iron rings at a target peg 5.5 metres away. A ringer (encircling the peg) is worth 2 points; the closest quoit scores 1. Regional variants include Northern (soft-clay) Quoits and the pub-table 'Rubber' or 'Rope' Quoits. The National Quoits Association organises leagues in England.
