Skipping Rope

Skipping Rope (Jump Rope in the US) is one of the oldest children's activities on Earth, depicted in ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. In its simplest form the player swings a rope under their feet and over their head, hopping each time it passes underneath. Group variants use one or two longer ropes turned by others (Double Dutch), sometimes to intricate rhymes and skipping games. Competitive jump-rope organisations run world championships in speed, freestyle and Double Dutch.
