Sugoroku

Sugoroku is a Japanese term covering two families of dice race games. Ban-sugoroku is essentially a form of backgammon, imported from Tang China in the 6th century and popular in Heian-era Japan. E-sugoroku (illustrated sugoroku) are Ludo-like races on printed boards themed around pilgrimages, kabuki actors or samurai battles — hugely popular from the Edo period through the mid-20th century.
