Tarot (card game)

Tarot is a family of trick-taking card games originating in 15th-century Northern Italy — the games came centuries before Tarot was adapted for occult divination. Played with a 78-card deck of four regular suits plus 22 permanent 'trumps'. Modern regional variants include French Tarot, Italian Tarocchini, Austrian Königrufen and Hungarian Tarokk. All feature bidding and complex point-scoring around key trump cards.
