WATER-SPORT where a rider surfs the WAKE (endless wave) behind a specialized WAKE BOAT (ballast-weighted, low-speed 10-12 mph) — after start with rope, rider DROPS THE ROPE + surfs freely, tricks + carves. Related to SURFING + WAKEBOARDING but NO BINDINGS to board (unlike wakeboarding). Started 1970s Californian lakes; boomed 2000s+ with specialized wake boats (Malibu, Nautique, Centurion, Supra, MasterCraft) which have swim-platform ballast tanks + wake plates. Basic rules

  • START: Rider floats behind boat with SURF ROPE; boat accelerates to 10-12 mph; rider stands + gets onto wave

  • DROP ROPE: Once rider is on wave (~3-5 seconds), rider DROPS ROPE + surfs freely
