Officially Warhammer 40,000 (10th Edition) — Competitive Matched Play

What is Warhammer 40,000 Competitive?
Warhammer 40,000 Competitive (Matched Play) is the tournament-format variant of Games Workshop's flagship 40K miniatures wargame — currently in its 10th Edition (launched June 2023). Set in the grim-dark 41st millennium featuring 20+ playable factions (Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Necrons, Orks, Aeldari, T'au, Tyranids, Genestealer Cults, Adepta Sororitas, Imperial Knights, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Custodes, Grey Knights, World Eaters, Leagues of Votann, Emperor's Children (re-released 2025), etc.). Competitive format uses standardized points (typically 2,000 points/side, occasionally 1,000/1,250/3,000) with pre-agreed Chapter Approved missions (Leviathan mission pack 2024-25, Pariah Nexus 2025-26). Signature global championship: World Championships of Warhammer (WCW), founded 2023, invite-only for top 128 players from regional circuits — 2024 Atlanta champion Richard Siegler (USA, Grey Knights); 2025 crowned in Atlanta again. Continental circuits: US Grand Tournament (LGT + Championship of Chicago + Adepticon), UK (WTC UK team format, London GT), European Team Championship (ETC — team format of 8 players per country), Australia. Publications: Warhammer Community + Goonhammer (community analysis + tournament reports).

How it works
Objective
Score more Victory Points than opponent by capturing Primary + Secondary Mission objectives.
Match structure
5-6 round Swiss + top-cut single-elimination playoff; individual tournaments 1-3 days, WCW 4 days.
Rules
Basic rules

Strategies
Objective-first mentality
Prioritize Primary Score capture over kill-counts — most events won on objectives, not table-clearing.
Clock discipline
Chess-clock time is a resource; slow-play is the #1 competitive issue.
