What is Bohnanza?

BOHNANZA is a CLASSIC BEAN-TRADING CARD GAME designed by UWE ROSENBERG (also Agricola 2007, Caverna 2013, A Feast for Odin 2016, Le Havre 2008, Patchwork 2014, and many more heavy-euro classics) + published by AMIGO SPIEL (Germany, 1997). ONE OF THE FIRST HIT games of the modern German designer era + Rosenberg's FIRST MAJOR HIT — established him as top designer. 2-7 PLAYERS plant + trade + harvest 8 types of BEANS (Coffee Beans, Wax Beans, Blue Beans, Chili Beans, Stink Beans, Green Beans, Soy Beans, Red Beans — plus expansion beans) in an agrarian trading economy. Iconic thematic HUMOR + charming Björn Pertoft illustrations. THE ONLY GAME WHERE HAND ORDER MATTERS — you must play cards in the ORDER you drew them. Cards CANNOT be rearranged in hand — this creates constant TRADING pressure to unload useless beans + acquire useful ones. TURN STRUCTURE: (1) PLANT first bean from hand (mandatory); may plant 2nd; (2) DRAW 2 cards + TRADE with other players (negotiation + open trading); (3) HARVEST beans when field ready (each bean has value chart 1-4 coins based on quantity harvested); (4) DRAW 3 new cards to end turn. Each player has 2-3 FIELDS to plant beans; harvest to COINS (VP); first to 20 coins wins or highest at end. NEGOTIATION IS CENTRAL: players trade cards + facilitate each other's harvests + block opponents' harvests. Simple 45-min game + huge replay + gateway euro game staple. Perfect for families + gamers. 5M+ COPIES sold. Multiple EXPANSIONS: Al Cabohne (1999 mafia theme), Bohnaparte (1999 war theme), Ladybohn (2009 women's edition), High Bohn (2000 psychedelic theme), Bohnröschen (2010 fairy tale), plus BOHN TO BE WILD, BOHN CAMILA, 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION (2022). Considered a MODERN CLASSIC + gateway trading/negotiation game + Uwe Rosenberg's masterpiece before his heavy-euro era.

Bohnanza vs other Uwe Rosenberg games (Agricola, Caverna)?+

VERY DIFFERENT GAMES. BOHNANZA (1997): light card + trading, 30-60 min, 2-7 players, gateway. AGRICOLA (2007): heavy worker-placement + farm building, 90-150 min, 1-5 players, engine building. CAVERNA (2013): Agricola successor with cave-building, 90-180 min, 1-7 players. LE HAVRE (2008): heavy euro economic engine, 90-180 min. RECOMMENDATION: BOHNANZA for casual family trading + intro to Rosenberg. AGRICOLA/CAVERNA/LE HAVRE for heavy euro fans. Bohnanza is Rosenberg's most family-friendly + accessible game.
