Origins in SHEPHERDING traditions of CASTILE + LEÓN + EXTREMADURA regions of SPAIN (medieval); still contested at LOCAL FESTIVALS + FIESTAS + regional tournaments organized by FEDERACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE JUEGOS Y DEPORTES AUTÓCTONOS (FEJYDA). Named after 'calva' (bald) — the target's smooth wooden shape.
