Objective

PUSH OFF ALL 4 of opponent's STONES on ANY ONE BOARD.

Rules

Basic rules

  • SETUP: EACH board starts with 4 STONES per player in home rows

    Signature 4-per-board initial setup.

  • TURN: player makes TWO MOVES — ONE 'PASSIVE' + ONE 'AGGRESSIVE'

    Signature 2-move turn.

  • PASSIVE MOVE: on ONE of YOUR HOME COLOR boards (light-wood), move ONE OF YOUR STONES 1 or 2 squares in ANY of 8 DIRECTIONS

    Signature passive move rules.

  • AGGRESSIVE MOVE: on ONE OPPOSING-COLOR board (dark-wood) that is on the OPPOSITE SIDE from your passive-move board, move ONE OF YOUR STONES using SAME DIRECTION + SAME DISTANCE as passive move

    Signature paired-aggressive-move rule.

  • AGGRESSIVE MOVE CAN PUSH one opposing stone (as long as PUSHED stone lands on empty square OR OFF THE BOARD)

    Signature push mechanic.

  • OFF-BOARD STONES: pushed off board = permanently removed

    Signature off-board removal.

  • PASS: if you can't make legal 2-move pair, you PASS (forfeit turn)

Aggressive move

Aggressive move can shove one opposing stone.
Off the board
Stones pushed off boundary — permanently removed.
Shōbu
Japanese for 'match / bout' — dojo-style challenge, source of game's name.
